Trevor Howe

Teacher in: Guitar, Lute, Rock Band & Music Theory
Languages of teaching: English & Dutch

Trevor Howe studied classical guitar with Bernhard Bielowski and John Della-Torre, then subsequently lute, archlute and theorbo with Tim Kersten in South Australia before he came to The Royal Conservatiore in The Hague as a lute student of Nigel North and Mike Fentross in 2005. Trevor has recorded with the early music ensemble Nova Hollandia, and is director of Virtuosi NL. Trevor’s musical interests are varied, and while specialising in the solo repertiore of Weiss and Bach, he also recorded with the heavy metal band Hegemon alongside his classical studies, as well as performing on the local cover circuit with South Australian good-time house band Spiny Norman (lead guitar). He worked closely with Virtuosi founder Tom Penn-Davies (AUS) from the school’s inception in Queensland in 2005. Tom has previously recognised Trevor’s dedication, and generously provides the logistics in support of Virtuosi NL: “Trevor’s unique teaching methods enable students to develop a strong technical ability and an appreciation and understanding of music across a variety of styles.  I was consistently impressed by Trevor’s attitude towards his work and I frequently received positive feedback from his many students. Trevor’s dedication to his work and the school contributed greatly to the increase in students we experienced… I recommend Trevor without reservation for any position or endeavor that he may seek to pursue. Trevor is organized, reliable, extremely competent, and has an excellent rapport with people of all ages. He is a valuable asset.” Trevor teaches classical and electric guitar to young and old, as well as coaching rock bands and ensembles for our biannual concert series. He has previously worked as a chef and high school teacher (with qualification to teach Music, Politics and Philosophy), and aims to help pupils infuse & develop their own sense of self-discipline around thier own interests and idiom to organise, coordinate and execute the work needed to achieve their personal musical goals.
